Whether for a planned appointment or an emergency visit, it’s crucial that patients can travel to see medical professionals whenever the need arises. No two patients are the same, however, meaning travel is not an easy endeavour for individuals with special vehicle requirements.

CMAC has developed a solution that not only makes it simple for patients to make it to an appointment on time, but also results in minimal admin for organisations to manage. With a dedicated team and a list of trusted suppliers, we provide patient transport solutions nationwide for a worry-free experience.

What we do

With our patient transfer services, we can ensure that non-critical patients have the access they need to attend both planned and emergency medical appointments.

Our vehicle procurement is approved by the Crown Commercial Service (CCS), meaning we’re trusted to transport patients safely and securely.

Similarly, our Best Practice Compliance Programme ensures that our suppliers deliver the best possible service for our customers. Our nationwide list of suppliers gives us access to a range of vehicle options to suit a patient’s needs, including wheelchair accessible and adapted vehicles for passengers with mobility needs.

How we do it

CMACs patient transfer services are either outsourced by G4S, who deploy taxis throughout the UK to transport patients, or directly for NHS trusts.

Our single-source solution is easy to use, and our approved and vetted supply chain ensures we can deliver an enhanced duty of care for patients travelling with us.

We provide a streamlined user experience for passengers. Our system allows users to book online and access thousands of potential suppliers to help find a suitable vehicle that will reach a patient’s destination on time. We’ll take care of all the logistics, too: we’ll manage a number of suppliers across a range of locations to save you time and energy.

Frequently asked questions

How will the patient find the driver after their appointment?
We want to make it as easy as possible for the patient to find our drivers after their appointment. Drivers make themselves known to the transport desk at each hospital. This is also communicated to each patient to ensure ta seamless collection process. Please note: A grace period of five minutes will apply to all taxi bookings. Once this grace period has expired, waiting time is charged, inclusive of the grace period.
What if the appointment overruns?
Return journey bookings should only be placed after the appointment has finished. Once the booking has been placed, a driver will be dispatched ASAP.
Will the driver assist the patient into the vehicle?
This depends on the level of assistance required. Drivers will help patients in and out of the vehicle, however CMACs patient transfer service should only be used for passengers requiring little support such as arm assistance. If the patient needs further support, then an ambulance service should be arranged.
What if the patient requires an accessible vehicle?
At point of booking, CMAC will ensure any special requirements are noted, so no matter what needs your patient may have, we will be sure to allocate a suitable vehicle for your passenger.
What is your cancellation policy?
As standard, a pre-booked taxi can be cancelled free of charge with a minimum of one hours notice. If a booking is not cancelled but on arrival is not required or there is no passenger present, the client will be charged a cancellation fee and any other associated charges in relation to the booking.
